Dr. Matthew Hendricks

Matthew Hendricks is the founder of Perspective Data Science, a consulting firm that specializes in higher education finance and policy analytics. Through Perspective Data Science, he has conducted benchmarking analyses and produced in-depth financial reports for over 150 colleges and universities. He has developed cutting-edge benchmarking dashboards that employ rigorous methods and incorporate newly constructed datasets—offering unique insights that go beyond traditional data sources.

Notably, he created one of the first comprehensive longitudinal datasets of financial and operational metrics extracted from audited financial statements and IRS Form 990 filings, filling a long-standing data gap in the higher education sector. Dr. Hendricks works closely with institutional leaders and boards to interpret these insights and guide policy decisions that address financial stress, enrollment challenges, and long-term sustainability.

Previously, Dr. Hendricks chaired the Department of Economics at The University of Tulsa. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota, with research published in The Journal of Public Economics and Economics of Education Review. His career spans more than a decade of policy research across Head Start, K–12, and higher education finance.
